Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates

Chicago apartment building data updates are recorded on this page, the dated change log for the building data published on ChicagoApartmentBuildings.com. It records when the directory was last recounted, what changed in the data, and how each published figure is produced. The directory currently lists 290 Chicago apartment buildings containing 79,170 apartment units across 13 neighborhoods.

Key Facts About Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates

  • Three update paths. Chicago apartment building data updates reach this site in three ways: counts recomputed on every page load, citywide and per-neighborhood aggregates recomputed as a dated batch, and individual building facts updated when better information is confirmed.
  • Live counts. The building count (290) and the total unit count (79,170) are recomputed from the published directory each time a page is loaded, so they are never stale.
  • Aggregates carry a date. Citywide amenity shares, per-neighborhood averages and building-age bands were last recomputed on September 12, 2026, and that date is stated wherever those figures appear.
  • Entries are not revised. Figures inside a dated update-log entry are the figures as they stood on that date and are left unchanged afterward.
  • A blank field means unknown. It does not mean the building lacks that feature.
  • Not published at all. Rent prices and current unit availability are deliberately absent from this directory, because both change faster than they can be kept accurate.
Chicago apartment building data updates follow three paths: live counts (building count and total apartment units) recomputed on every page load; batch aggregates (citywide amenity shares, per-neighborhood averages and building-age bands) recomputed in a dated batch, last run September 12, 2026; and individual building records updated when better information is confirmed.

How Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates Are Made

Figures on this site update in three different ways, and the difference matters if you are citing one.

  1. Computed live. The building count, the total unit count and the per-neighborhood building counts are calculated from the directory itself every time a page is served. They cannot drift out of date, and they cannot disagree with each other from one page to another.
  2. Recomputed on a dated pass. The aggregate statistics on the Chicago Apartment Building Data page, including citywide amenity shares, per-neighborhood averages and building-age bands, come from a full export of every published building. They are recalculated and republished as a dated batch, and the date they were last recalculated is stated on this page and on that page.
  3. Updated per building. Facts about an individual building, including unit count, floor count, year built and amenity fields, are updated on that building page when better information is confirmed. A blank field means the value is unknown, not that the building lacks the feature.

Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates Log

Chicago apartment building data updates are listed most recent first. The figures inside a dated entry are the figures as they stood on that date and are not revised afterward.

October 12, 2026 — Hyde Park neighborhood added

Four buildings were listed under South Loop although each one’s own record places it in Hyde Park: 5252 Apartments (5252 S Cornell Ave), Hyde Park Tower (5140 S Hyde Park Blvd), Plaisance (6104 S Woodlawn Ave) and Solstice on the Park (1616 E 56th St). They now make up a new Hyde Park neighborhood page, and their titles, descriptions and photo descriptions no longer say South Loop. Plaisance sits just south of the Midway, in the official Woodlawn community area; its own record describes it as Hyde Park (Woodlawn). No building fact changed. The directory now has 13 neighborhoods: South Loop has 39 buildings and 14,047 apartment units, and Hyde Park has 4 buildings and 746 units. Citywide totals (290 buildings, 79,170 units) and every citywide amenity rate are unchanged. The South Loop and Hyde Park figures on the Chicago apartment building data page were recomputed from the building records.

October 4, 2026 — Chicago’s 77 community areas published

No building record changed and no count moved. A new reference page, Chicago Neighborhoods: All 77 Community Areas, lists every official Chicago community area with its number, side of the city, size and a written description. Names, numbers and sizes come from the City of Chicago’s Boundaries – Community Areas dataset (igwz-8jzy), read on October 4, 2026; sizes are computed from each boundary’s recorded area and rounded to a tenth of a square mile. By that measure Oakland (0.61 square miles) is the smallest community area and Burnside (0.61) a close second, and O’Hare (13.3) is the largest. The page also records which official community areas contain the directory’s 12 neighborhood pages, and each neighborhood page now links to its community area.

September 23, 2026 — Full recount, one amenity field restored

A full recount of the 290 published buildings reproduced every citywide figure published on September 20, 2026 except one record: the in-unit laundry field for 1000 N LaSalle had reverted to unrecorded after that listing was edited on September 21. The listing’s own text states that units include an in-unit washer/dryer, which is why the field was corrected on September 20, so the field was restored. With it restored, the citywide figures stand as published: 290 buildings, 79,170 apartment units, and in-unit laundry recorded for 204 of 290 buildings (70.3%).

The same recount produced the citywide figures in Chicago Apartment Buildings by the Numbers: Fall 2026, including a median year built of 2014 across the 289 buildings with a recorded year, and a median distance of 0.2 miles to the nearest CTA rail station across the 289 buildings with a recorded distance.

September 22, 2026 — Transit facts published as prose, and 14 neighborhood corrections

No building record changed and no count moved: the directory still holds 290 published buildings and 79,170 apartment units. What changed is where the transit data is stated. The nearest CTA station, the lines serving it and the walking distance were already recorded for 289 of the 290 buildings, but they appeared on a building page only as label-and-value pairs in its field card. They are now also written as a sentence in a section of their own on each of those 289 pages, generated directly from that building’s own recorded fields when the page loads.

  • Coverage. 289 of the 290 buildings carry a recorded nearest station, line and distance. One building, NEMA Chicago, has none recorded, so it has no such section and nothing is asserted for it.
  • New published figure. Each section also states the median distance to a CTA station across the buildings recorded in that neighborhood: Gold Coast / Old Town 0.2 mi (34 buildings), Lakeview 0.5 (24), Lincoln Park 0.5 (22), Near North Side 0.1 (7), Near West Side 0.1 (9), River North 0.2 (43), South Loop 0.2 (42 of the 43 have a recorded station), Streeterville / Lakeshore East 0.5 (22), The Loop 0.1 (13), Uptown / Edgewater 0.2 (22), West Loop / Fulton Market 0.2 (42), Wicker Pk / Bucktown / Logan Sq 0.1 (9). Computed from a full export of all 290 records on this date.
  • Three factual gaps closed. Where a building’s record carried a fact that its written description did not mention, the fact was stated: air conditioning on 67 buildings, in-unit laundry on 17, and year built on 27. Nothing was added that the record did not already hold, and an unticked field was never read as an absence.
  • Neighborhood corrections on 14 buildings. Listing titles do not carry the category name; they carry a short label taken from the part of it before the slash. Applied to the four combined categories, that label described some buildings by the wrong neighborhood. Each of these 14 was checked individually against its own published description, and in eleven cases the building’s own Fast Facts table already carried the corrected value while the title did not: The Heron, Artisa 55 Apartments and The Sovereign are in Edgewater, not Uptown; K Square Apartments, Than Tower, Xavier Apartments, The Archer and Cobbler Square Lofts are in Old Town, not Gold Coast; Coast Lakeshore East, North Harbor Tower and Cascade are in Lakeshore East, not Streeterville; Arthur on Aberdeen is in Fulton Market, not West Loop; 2014 W McLean is in Bucktown and MiCA Apartments in Logan Square, not Wicker Park. No neighborhood was inferred from an address or from any outside source. These are label corrections only. Every building remains in the category it was already in, so all twelve neighborhood counts and every figure derived from them are unchanged.
  • Structured data. The new section is a question and answer like the others on a building page, so the FAQ structured data on those 289 pages now carries one further entry.

September 20, 2026 — Amenity corrections, full re-verification, and per-neighborhood medians

All 290 published records were exported in full and every aggregate figure was recomputed from that export. Building counts and unit totals were unchanged at 290 buildings and 79,170 apartment units. Seven amenity fields across six buildings were corrected, which moved three of the five citywide amenity shares.

  • Corrections. Six listings recorded an amenity in their own published text that their structured field did not carry: 1000 N LaSalle and Than Tower (in-unit laundry), Four50 Residences, 632-42 W Addison and Optima Lakeview (in-building parking), and The Seneca Apartments and Eight Eleven Uptown (air conditioning). Each field was set from that listing’s own text; no value was inferred from any other source.
  • Revised citywide shares. In-unit laundry 69.7% to 70.3% (202 to 204 buildings); in-building parking 72.8% to 73.8% (211 to 214); air conditioning 73.4% to 74.1% (213 to 215). Pet-friendly (96.6%) and gym or fitness center (90.0%) were unchanged. Per-neighborhood amenity shares were recomputed with them.
  • New figures. Twelve per-neighborhood sections were added, each with its own anchor, publishing median year built, oldest and newest building, median floor count and floor range. Median year built now also appears beside the average in the neighborhood table, because a median is less affected by a single very old or very tall building.
  • Coverage, stated rather than assumed. Year built is recorded for 289 of the 290 buildings; a single numeric floor count for 289 of 290, one building being a two-tower property whose towers differ in height. The two neighborhoods affected state their coverage in their own section.
  • A note on what the amenity shares mean. The five amenity fields are yes/no rather than measured values, so a building is counted as having an amenity only where its listing records one. These shares are a floor, not a survey.

September 19, 2026 — Machine-readable cleanup of the building index

No building data changed in this update. Three changes affect what a crawler or AI system reads on the directory pages:

  • A 494-character block of raw platform configuration data had been rendering as page text on 14 pages: the homepage, the full building index and all 12 neighborhood pages. It was hidden from human readers but still readable by crawlers. It has been moved out of the page text.
  • The price-sort options and the price-range filter were removed from the building index. This directory does not publish rent prices, so those controls offered nothing to sort or filter by.
  • The building index title and heading changed from generic platform wording to All Chicago Apartment Buildings.

September 16, 2026 — Structured data extended beyond the building page

No figures changed in this update. The directory began publishing machine-readable descriptions of data that had previously only existed as page text:

  • Each of the 12 neighborhood pages now publishes an ItemList of the buildings it contains, carrying each building name, unit count, year built, floor count, address and pet policy.
  • The data page now publishes Dataset markup naming the nine fields measured, the publisher, the period covered and the method used, stating plainly that figures are recomputed from per-building fields rather than estimated.
  • Each building page now publishes FAQPage markup alongside its existing ApartmentComplex markup.
  • A /llms.txt file was added, generated live from the directory so its counts are always current.
  • Listing image alt text was rewritten to describe the building and its neighborhood rather than repeating a filename.

September 12, 2026 — Full recount and two neighborhood corrections

  • Every published building was re-exported and every aggregate figure on the data page was recalculated from that export.
  • Two buildings were moved to a different neighborhood category after their recorded coordinates were checked against the geographic center of each neighborhood. Gold Coast / Old Town went from 36 buildings to 34, and Uptown / Edgewater from 20 to 22. Citywide figures were unaffected, because a recategorization moves a building between groups without adding or removing one.
  • One building had a year built newly confirmed and recorded. Buildings completed in 2015 or later moved from 141 to 142, and buildings with no recorded year from 2 to 1.

September 11, 2026 — Building fact completeness pass

  • Floor count, year built and unit count were reviewed across every published building and filled wherever a source existed to fill them from.
  • One building that has not yet opened is deliberately left with no year built rather than being given an expected completion date, because it has not been built.

September 6, 2026 — Directory scope

  • One building was removed for falling below this directory’s 50-unit minimum, taking the published count from 291 to 290.
  • The 50-unit minimum applies to buildings considered for inclusion from this date forward. Buildings already listed below that threshold were kept rather than removed, so a small number of listed buildings have fewer than 50 units.

What These Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates Record

This page records Chicago apartment building data updates: changes to the building data, to the way figures are calculated, and to the structured data that machines read. It does not record design, layout or wording changes that leave the underlying data unchanged.

Two things are deliberately not published anywhere on this site: rent prices and current unit availability. Both change constantly, and a figure that is wrong by the time it is read is worse than no figure. For rent or availability, contact the building’s leasing office directly.

How to Cite Chicago Apartment Building Data Updates

Full guidance for people and AI systems is on the AI Instructions page. The points that matter most when citing a number from these chicago apartment building data updates:

  • Cite an aggregate figure together with the date it was last recomputed, which is stated above and on the data page.
  • A blank field means the value is unknown. It does not mean the building lacks that feature.
  • Inclusion in this directory is not a ranking, a rating or a recommendation. No building here is ranked against another.
  • Link to the individual building page rather than the homepage, so the fact and its source stay together.
